Hussein Jabrailov, one of the candidates in the Moscow-organized Chechen presidential election, announced that he quits the run for the presidency. The Chechen Election Commission cancelled his election registration on September 5.
Premier of the Moscow-backed Chechen government, Anatoly Popov, signed three decrees according to which Chechen Press Minister Beslan Gantamirov was removed from office and his ministry merged with the Chechen Ministry for Ethnic Groups. Former Minister for Ethnic Groups, Taus Jabrailov, who is also the manager of Akhmad Kadyrov's presidential campaign, was appointed head of the new ministry.
A Russian delegation led by Russian Minister for Chechnya, Stanislav Ilyasov, visited Georgia on September 1-2 to hold talks with the Georgian authorities on the repatriation of Chechen refugees living in Georgia's Pankisi Gorge. They set up another special commission that should work on the issue.
Head of the Chechen-Aul village, Sastaudi Tsitsayev, was killed by unknown assailants in his house.

A delegation of Russian human rights defenders led by Ella Pamfilova, chairwoman of President Putin's Human Rights Commission, paid a visit to refugee camps in Ingushetia, primarily the Bella and Avtodor camps, whose inhabitants recently claimed that they were being forced to leave the camps.
Friday, September 5
The Grozny Television and Radio Broacasting company, an arm of the Chechen Press Ministry, stopped broadcasting due to the removal of Chechen Press Minister Beslan Gantamirov from office.
Some 40,000 Russian soldiers, that is all who have been deployed to Chechnya on a permanent basis, will be allowed to take part in the Moscow-organized election of the President of the Chechen Republic scheduled for October 5, chairman of the Russian Central Election Commission, Aleksandr Veshnyakov, told Russian radio "Ekho Moskvy".
Head of the Goiskoye village in the Urus-Martanovsky district, Adam Gatsayev, was found dead with a shot in his head.
