Starye Atagi comes under mortar fire, with casualtiesBy Lecha Sadayev
CHECHNYA - On the night of November 8-9, unknown attackers fired mortars at the southern outskirts of the village of Starye Atagi in the Groznensky (rural) district.
At 3am six projectiles exploded in the yard of local resident Musa Yusupov, on Zelyonaya Street. As a result, five members of his family received serious fragmentation wounds: they include the house's owner, his wife, two children and two-year-old granddaughter. They were taken to hospital in a grave condition.
Shaid Zhamaldayev, head of the district administration, told journalists this morning that another five houses had suffered serious damage as a result of this incident, and four houses were partially damaged.
Starye Atagi residents are of the opinion that their village was fired on by soldiers of the federal forces who are stationed on the perimeter of this populated area.
An inquiry into the incident is being held.
