Detained human rights activists from Chechnya released from custody
Ruslan Isayev, North Caucasus – Human rights activists Larisa Temirsultanova and Khadizhat Yusupova were released from custody yesterday evening. PW received this information from Zargan Makhadzhiyeva, director of the human rights organization “Niiso”.
The girls are on their way home. According to Makhadzhiyeva, it is not yet known why they were detained. It is also not known whether any coercion was brought to bear on them.
Larisa Temirsultanova and Khadizhat Yusupova were detained on the Russia-Azerbaijan border by representatives of the Russian special services on Tuesday January 4, when they were returning home from a seminar in Baku organized by Azerbaijan human rights workers.
