URGENT REPORT: MAHMUT MAGOMADOV IS FREE!!
Today on February 13, 2004 at 11 o'clock in the morning the known Chechen lawyer and human rights activist, Mahmut Magomadov who has been abducted on January 20, 2004 by representatives of the unestablished armed units has contacted by telephone with the chairman of Regional Public Movement “Chechen Committee for National Salvation”, Ruslan Badalov.
By telephone in his conversation Mahmut Magomadov informed that he has been at home since yesterday's evening in the close relatives and friends circle who experienced and not for a minute did not stop searching, undertook all necessary actions on finding out of his site.
Mahmut Magomadov informed us that armed people had released him in half an hour after abduction. It has taken place after they having checked up passport data and in 5 minutes, probably, having established his identity stated that he had been detained by mistake and searched actually for the other.
Further Magomadov told to us that this night he had been on a visit to familiar and the next morning had left Grozny and with a view of his safety he had decided to stay at his friends in one of the neighboring republics of the Northern Caucasus in which one exactly he did not inform.
Taking an opportunity Magomadov asked us to tell the sincere gratitude and thankfulness to PACE to all international and Russian human rights organizations who indefatigably continued to address to the President of Russia and other heads of Russian law-enforcement and human rights bodies with the request of taking emergency measures on his release.
In the following press releases we shall try to inform more detailed details of abduction and circumstance of disappearance of the employee of Regional Public Movement “ Chechen Committee for National Salvation”, Mahmut Magomadov.
