PACE delegation to visit Chechnya, Ingushetia prior to session in StrasbourgTimur Aliyev, North Caucasus, January 8 – A delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) is expected to arrive in Moscow on January 20, planning to continue to Chechnya, Ingushetia, and North Osetia. According to the preliminary agenda of the visit, the delegation will monitor the political and humanitarian situation in Chechnya and the conditions of Chechen refugees living outside their homeland.
According to preliminary information, the delegation should meet not only with federal politicians dealing with Chechen issues but also with the leadership and top migration officials of the North Caucasian republics. Besides, the delegation is to meet also with representatives of humanitarian and human rights organizations working in the region. Last but not leasts, members of the delegation intend to meet with Chechen politician Ruslan Khasbulatov and former President of Ingushetia Ruslan Aushev.
In Ingushetia the delegation will visit refugee camps and in Chechnya hospitals and various educational facilities in Grozny, Urus-Martan, Argun, Znamenskoye. The delegation intends to familiarize itself with the situation at temporary accommodation centres for Chechen refugees who are returning from Ingushetia. Besides, members of the delegation should meet with representatives of the Russian military. The departure of the delegation is scheduled for January 25.
The visit of the PACE delegation is connected with the upcoming PACE’s part-session, which starts on January 27. The results of the visit will be reflected in a report that will be presented to PACE on January 29. (T) |
