Moscow negative about Akhmadov's visit to U.S. State Department
MOSCOW. Jan 24 (Interfax) - Moscow sees the meeting between an
official representative of the U.S. Department of State and the
so-called "foreign minister of Chechnya" Ilyas Akhmadov as "nothing
less than an unfriendly step towards Russia," the Russian Foreign
Ministry said on Thursday.
This step "runs counter to the spirit of cooperation and partnership
between the two countries in the fight against international
terrorism," the Russian Foreign Ministry release reads.
The Foreign Ministry placed special emphasis on "the fact that the
meeting with Akhmadov happens at the moment when more and more
evidence arises, including in the U.S. mass media, that confirms the
connection between the Chechen warlords and Osama bin Laden and al
Qaeda, their financial support of the Chechen terrorists, and their
training in terrorist camps in Afghanistan."
