Protests in Argun continueRuslan Isayev, North Caucasus – Protests continued in Argun on Monday where Russian artillery shelling in the night between November 8 and 9 claimed the lives of local inhabitants. Earlier reports spoke of 12-13 killed inhabitants of Argun, however, the latest report* says that a total of 33 people were killed and another 65 wounded during the shelling.
Participants in the meeting wrote an appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin, asking him to pay attention to the abuses of Russian forces and stop the genocide of the Chechen nation. Some thousand people signed the appeal. The protesters also demand a withdrawal of Russian troops from Chechnya.
* Prague Watchdog is currently checking the actual number of casualties among civilians from other sources. According to the report of Human Rights Centre Memorial of November 13, 8 people were killed during the shelling.
