Chechen journalist Khanpash Terkibayev arrestedRuslan Isayev, North Caucasus - Chechen journalist Khanpash Terkibayev was arrested at his home in the village of Mesker-Yurt, south-east of the capital Grozny.
Before the war the thirty-year-old journalist worked as the head of Chechen television programme “The Voyage of the President”, which reported on and discussed the life and work of Chechen President Aslan Maskhadov. From the beginning of the war Terkibayev stayed at home and did not take part in any of the fighting.
This is not the first case of a person in some way connected with Maskhadov’s government and actively supporting the termination of the war in Chechnya. In the end of February active participants of anti-war rallies, 60-year-old Kharon Khumaidov and his daughter Malika disappeared without trace. In January Russian soldiers burst in the houses of 60-year-old Sultana Astamirova and 58-year-old Deni Oziyev, both of whom took part in many anti-war activities in Chechnya. The soldiers looted their apartments and beat them.
