Chronicle of the Day: March 19-20 in Chechnya Ruslan Isayev, Northern Caucasus - On March 19, at a check-point located on a road fork near the settlement of Mesker-Jurt, during a check of documents, five civilian residing in Argun were detained and transported to unknown locations.
On the same day, near the village of Chechen-Aul, two male corpses with traces of torture were taken from the river. Chechen-Aul residents carried the corpses to a mosque for make them ready for a funeral.
In Grozny, close to a medical school, Saltayev Khavazhi, a 16-year-old resident of the Chechen capital was killed by a mine.
On his way to work, veterinary Isa Takayev was beaten by soldiers of a unit deployed at the entrance to Shali. The soldiers robbed him of a suitcase with his tools, a wristwatch, and cash. The severely beaten man was transported to the district hospital.
In the night between March 19 and 20, in Argun Russial soldiers carried out a round-up, during which illegal arrests took place, with 19 males being taken away right from the bed.
On the following morning Russian soldiers shot at a passenger car "Moskvich 412", having killed the driver, Argun resident Said Khasan Umarov (born in 1953), and seriously injured the two passengers, Khedi Bagayeva and her sister Zina. Although the women were taken by a car that was passing by, Khedi eventually died of an excessive loss of blood due to long delays at check-points.
